Dear Community Members,
At the Federal Way Community Center, our highest priority is always the safety and well-being of our patrons and our community. With this in mind, we want to inform you of a necessary measure we are undertaking to ensure everyone’s safety.
Effective immediately, we are closing the locker rooms at the Federal Way Community Center. This decision is being made to initiate critical remediation efforts promptly and is part of our overall project to completely renovate the locker rooms to ensure they are a safe, clean, and enjoyable space for all patrons to use.
As part of the Locker Room Renovation project at FWCC, Med-Tox Northwest was engaged by our contractor, Innova Architects, to conduct standard testing for environmental conditions within the entire facility. The testing revealed the presence of mold contaminants within the locker room area. No mold was detected in the remainder of the FWCC.
While the closure may come sooner than anticipated, it is imperative that we take swift action to follow the recommendations made by Med-Tox Northwest’s to mitigate any potential safety risks and to ensure that our facilities meet the highest standards of quality. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Please note that this closure only impacts the locker room facilities and other facilities and amenities, including the pools, at the Federal Way Community Center remain open and accessible to our patrons. But, you will notice changes to the entry into the pool areas and loss of access to and use of the steam room and sauna.
Steps to provide an alternative locker room space, including restrooms and showers, are already underway. We are committed to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all members of our community and will provide updates on these efforts and the overall remediation and renovation work. Please visit https://itallhappenshere.org/locker-room-renovations/ for more information and updates as we have them.
While the closure allows for focused attention on remediation efforts, it is unclear at this time whether it will impact the overall timeline of the locker room renovations.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Leif Ellsworth, who is available to assist you.
Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize your safety and well-being.
