FEDERAL WAY COMMUNITY CENTER LOCKER ROOM RENOVATIONS
The FWCC is located at 876 S 333rd Street and opened 16 years ago in 2008. The facility promotes enrichment, fitness, and educational opportunities for all age groups. The facility endures almost continuous use. The locker rooms, showers, steam room, sauna, and family cabanas have deteriorated over time due to the continuous damp environment. Renovations to these areas are essential to ensure safe, healthy, and functional spaces.
Federal Way Community Center Locker Room Renovations Project transcends bricks and mortar; it is a commitment to enhancing the longevity and sustainability of the infrastructure that has been a cornerstone of countless wellness journeys. This Project will consist of a complete redesign and renovation to correct the visible deficiencies and ensure a space that seamlessly integrates accessibility and modern aesthetics.
SCOPE OF WORK
The Locker Room Renovation Project will reconstruct the locker rooms, restrooms, showers, and family cabana areas with improved water-resistant fixtures, finishes, and equipment. Ventilation to these spaces will also be increased.
The locker room is undergoing closure for essential maintenance and renovation work to enhance safety and improve facilities for our patrons.
The closure period is expected to last approximately starting from February 2024 to May 2025. However, the duration may be subject to change based on the progress of the renovation work.
Regular updates will be posted on the Federal Way Community Center website, social media channels, and through email newsletters. Additionally, notices will be displayed prominently within the facility to keep patrons informed about any changes or developments.
Alternative changing areas will be provided during the closure period. Temporary changing facilities will be available in Party Rooms of the community center. You will see these areas right as you enter the front doors of the Community Center. Additionally, patrons are encouraged to change at home and be prepared to keep belongings with them. Lockers have been installed near the changing areas.
Access to other facilities within the community center, such as the gymnasium, swimming pool, and fitness center, will remain operational as usual.
There are no regulatory or industry standards for airborne mold spores. Generally, we collect air samples in the investigation stage and then after remediation is complete.
We have been advised to not repeat air samples for mold until the locker/cabana areas are remediated of mold and the moisture issue resolved.
Low for the general public. Unknown for immunocompromised individuals, but infections and adverse health effects are rare.
Exposure to molds has occurred throughout history. The types of molds found in office buildings are not rare or even unusual. It is important to understand that no indoor space is completely free from mold spores – not even a surgical operating room. Molds are everywhere, making our exposure to molds unavoidable, whether indoors or outdoors, at home or at work.
There will be no adjustments to membership fees during the closure period. All other services and amenities provided by the community center will remain available to our patrons. Should a significant impact to amenities offered or services occur we will revisit this if needed.
