Whether you are new to exercise, or a fitness veteran, group exercise classes are a great way to take your fitness level up a notch. With all the different options at the FWCC, there is a group exercise class for every fitness level and every interest!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Learn more about what to expect for each of our classes below and learn the rules about attending a Group Fitness class at The Federal Way Community Center. It All Happens Here!
- BRING YOUR OWN MAT
- CLASSES ARE FOR AGES 12 AND UP
- ARRIVE ON TIME– A good warm up is an important aspect of a successful workout. Late arrivals are disruptive to the entire class.
- STAY FOR THE WHOLE CLASS – The cool down is as important as the warm-up. Leaving class early is disruptive to the flow of the class.
- KEEP CONVERSATIONS TO A MINIMUM during class. It is disruptive to others who are trying to hear and follow the instructor.
- PARTICIPATE IN CLASS – Please refrain from “doing your own thing” while in class. This will allow for better class flow.
- WAIT YOUR TURN! Please wait until one class is over before entering the studio for the one that follows.
- PHONE/ELECTRONIC FREE ZONE. Group Exercise studios are phone/electronic free zones. Please silence or turn off your phones while participating in a class. Please leave the class to text or make a call.
- DRESS APPROPRIATELY for the class you’re taking. Open toed shoes such as sandals and flip flops are not allowed in the fitness center or fitness classes.
- WIPE DOWN YOUR EQUIPMENT – Please wipe down the equipment after you use it. Gym wipes or solution in the spray bottle and paper towels are provided for you to do so.
- RETURN ALL EQUIPMENT to its proper place after the class is finished.
- STORE BELONGINGS IN A LOCKER – Please leave all of your belongings besides a towel and a water bottle in a locker.
- BRING YOUR OWN MAT to classes for hygiene reasons.
- TALK TO US! Instructors love to hear your feedback. Group Fitness classes are designed for you; so if you have feedback or a suggestion, let us know!
Only WATER is permitted in the Fitness Areas. No food, soda, juice, flavor mix-ins, pre-workout, or any other non-water substances are permitted. Failure to follow this rule may result in loss of facility use and/or membership loss.
Individuals MUST register online for Free Group Fitness trial class prior to coming to class. Limit one per guest. Class availability and schedules are subject to change.
Kickboxing and Virtual Zumba require registration prior to class dates. Register online.

1. Accountability. A resolution to exercise won’t do you any good unless you actually get started…and then keep it up, even when your motivation lags. The fact that the others in your class, not to mention your instructor, will notice your absence usually provides enough of a impetus to get people out the door and into the gym. Having that accountability built in is an ideal way to ensure that you actually keep up with your intention to exercise regularly.
2. Great Fitness Instructors. Ever worried you weren’t doing an exercise correctly when you were alone at home? At a group fitness class, those worries won’t be an issue. Your instructor will check to see that everyone is doing each exercise correctly, for safety’s sake, as well as to make sure you’re getting the maximum fitness benefits.
3. Challenged to push yourself. When you’re on your own, you may slow down a little when you get tired, or even give up when you get winded. But in a group setting, the instructor will push you to keep going, even when you think you can’t make it another second. Not only that, but your classmates will also encourage you, simply by virtue of the fact that they’re still going. If they can do it, so can you.
4. Group exercise classes are FUN! We’ve all heard the advice that in order to really motivate ourselves to exercise, we should choose an activity we feel is fun. And it’s true. If you love meeting up with friends to exercise through dance, water aerobics, cycling, or any other of the myriad fun activities available at the FWCC, you’re much more likely to show up and give your all every time. Whether it’s the activity itself, the friendships you’ll form, or even a spirit of friendly competition, enjoying yourself makes all the difference when it comes to fitness.

Interested in learning to lift and move weight properly? Take our Group Power class-one hour and we will work your entire body-legs, triceps, biceps, shoulders and more. Looking to release your inner fighter or maybe just blow off some steam? Group Fight will have you punching, kicking, while using real MMA techniques and drills-you will want to make sure you have a towel nearby to wipe off all that sweat!
SilverSneakers — Boost energy, burn calories, improve balance, strength, and flexibility! This all-over body conditioning program incorporates gentle yoga and movement therapy and includes hand weights and resistance training. Its format is suitable for most all levels and will challenge even the most active fitness enthusiast! NOTE: All exercises are performed “in and around” a chair. Students “do not” recline to the floor.
SilverSneakers BOOM — This 30-minute class includes sports-inspired exercises that improve upper body conditioning, focusing on different muscle groups during “blocks.” Tone your muscles and build overall strength in MUSCLE
Cardio Kick — Cardio kickboxing combines martial arts techniques with fast-paced cardio. This high-energy workout challenges the beginner and elite athlete alike. Build stamina, improve coordination and flexibility, and burn calories as you build lean muscle with this fun and challenging workout.
Chair Yoga® — is a universal class designed specifically to target balance, range of movement, muscular endurance, restorative breathing and mind-body integration improvement.
Kickboxing — using a bag, enhances aerobic fitness, coordination, power, core stability, stamina, and endurance. Increases self-defense skills. Enhances boxing technique. Improves upper-body strength and strengthen ligaments and bones.
Low Impact Circuit® — Combine fun with fitness to increase cardiovascular and muscular endurance with a standing and mat focused circuit workout. Strength work combined with low impact exercises.
Focus Personal Training — Working with one of our experienced Personal Trainers you will learn to exercise your body correctly through movement and breathing techniques. keep your mind interested and your body challenged. Get the best of both worlds and work your entire body, heart and lungs with a combination of cardio and strength.
Taichi — Move through a series of mind and body exercises with breathing instructions Relax and strengthen your body & mind together while increasing your flexibility and balance.
Yoga and Gentle Yoga — Let it flow slow and low in this interdisciplinary yoga practice. You can expect to improve flexibility, balance and lower stress with regular attendance.
