Locker Rooms NOW OPEN!

Locker Rooms Opening October 22!

After months of hard work, we’re thrilled to announce that the newly renovated locker rooms at the Federal Way Community Center are NOW OPEN!

Wednesday, October 22 was re-opening day. This long-anticipated project began in February 2024 and has been part of our continued effort to improve the member experience, upgrade aging facilities, and create a more comfortable and efficient space for everyone who visits FWCC.

What’s New?

The newly renovated locker rooms now feature:

  • All-New Flooring: The locker rooms now feature sleek, durable epoxy flooring with a smooth finish and excellent traction built to handle heavy daily use while maintaining a polished look.
  • Fresh Tile & Design: Tilework spans the walls, showers, and steam areas, with modern patterns and neutral tones that brighten the space and create a spa-like feel.
  • Upgraded Fixtures: New sinks, mirrors, partitions, and lockers were installed, offering more functionality and improved flow throughout the locker rooms.
  • Revamped Sauna & Steam Room: Both have been fully rebuilt with new wood paneling, benches, lighting, and ventilation.
  • Enhanced Accessibility: A second shower was added near the leisure pool deck to improve access and convenience for all users.
  • Better Ventilation & Comfort: Fresh HVAC systems and updated ductwork create better airflow and humidity control throughout the locker rooms, steam, and sauna areas.
  • Waterproofing & Durability: Beneath the surface, new cement board, waterproof coatings, and sloped drains were installed to extend the life of the facilities and improve maintenance efficiency.

FWCC Locker Room Update: Inspections & Punchlists

FWCC Locker Room Renovation Update! 🚧 (9/30/25)
Work continues across all of the locker rooms, and we’re excited to share that we’ve now entered the punch list and inspection phase.

Flooring installation is nearly complete, partitions are in place, and sinks and mirrors have been installed. For those eagerly awaiting the sauna and steam room, you’ll be glad to know they’ve recently been fired up and are in working order.
While a few final items remain, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Although we don’t have a firm reopening date just yet, we are quickly approaching completion and will share updates as soon as more details are available.

Thank you for your continued patience as we work to bring you these much-needed improvements!

Locker Room Renovations & Odor Update

FWCC Operations Notice graphic showing the Federal Way Community Center exterior with a large yellow caution symbol overlay

The Federal Way Community Center is currently renovating its locker room facilities. Part of that project requires the installation of epoxy flooring, which began Friday. The application of the primer caused a strong-smelling odor within the facility today (August 5, 2025).

Out of an abundance of caution, South King Fire was called to the Community Center and tested the resulting fumes for potentially hazardous materials. The tests showed no cause for concern. However, the firefighters did state that those who have sensitivities to odors may experience discomfort.

We are confident that the Community Center is a safe space for all and are currently taking steps to reduce the odors and mitigate their impacts on those present within the Community Center.

Work on the locker room floors will continue for the next three weeks. While mitigation efforts will continue to keep the odor at a reduced level, there may be instances where it could be present.

Day camps and public classes at the Community Center will continue without interruption.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Leif Ellsworth or Autumn Gressett.
