Dougie Fir is the friendly mascot of Federal Way Parks & Recreation, dedicated to promoting wellness, outdoor exploration, and fun. He’s all about encouraging people to get outside, stay active, and enjoy everything our parks have to offer.
As for his favorite park, Dougie loves Steel Lake Park! With its beautiful lakefront, picnic areas, playground, and plenty of space for swimming and outdoor fun, it’s the perfect spot for Dougie to spend a day with friends and family.
The City of Federal Way maintains 32 developed parks and 2 major trails that define a 1,094-acre park system of 543 developed acres and 551 open space acres. These properties include community parks, neighborhood parks, trails, open space areas and special use areas.
Facilities Include:
Federal Way Community Center – Offers gyms, pools, fitness areas, climbing wall, and community rooms.
Dumas Bay Centre – A beautiful venue for business retreats, weddings, and events, plus a park and beach.
Knutzen Family Theatre – Hosts performances by local artists and arts organizations.
Can I rent picnic sites and fields?
Yes! Federal Way Parks & Recreation offers picnic site rentals at several parks, including Steel Lake Park, Town Square Park, and Sacajawea Park. Many sites include picnic tables, seating, and nearby amenities like playgrounds, sports fields, and barbecue grills. Rentals are perfect for family gatherings, celebrations, and company picnics.

We also offer athletic field rentals for seasonal sports, tournaments, and special events. Fields are available for soccer, baseball, softball, and more at Celebration Park, Saghalie Park, Steel Lake Park, and other locations. Due to high demand, reservations should be made in advance.
