FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FEDERAL WAY COMMUNITY CENTER
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Community Center’s reopening plan?
We are excited to open our doors soon! The Federal Way Community Center is considered an indoor recreation facility, which is eligible to open in phase 3 in King County. Once approved to enter this phase, we will announce opening dates for our facilities. Visit itallhappenhere.org for the latest updates.

Will reservations be required to visit the community center?
Yes, we want to provide the most positive return experience possible for every member and guest. We are working on the logistics of a reservation system to ensure we are in compliance with capacity and group restrictions.

Will the pool open when the community center reopens?
Aquatic center will open when we reopen based on capacity restrictions and staff resources available. Hot tubs will also open with capacity restrictions. The steam room, and sauna will remain closed until guidelines allow reduced social distancing measures.

Will members ages 65 and older and high-risk individuals be able to visit the FWCC when it reopens?
We are unclear how the guidelines impact our 65+ and high risk populations at this time and will share more information as it becomes available. Thanks for your patience!

Are we taking the temperatures of everyone who enters the Community Center?
We are following guidelines from the governor’s office, which includes a health screening for everyone who enters the facility and thermal temperature scans at this time. Should this requirement change we will update our processes as needed.

Is the Community Center charging membership dues while the facility is closed?
Starting March 13, all membership accounts were placed on hold. While we will not be collecting membership fees during the closer, upon reopening those dues will be charged.

RECREATION CLASSES

Are there opportunities to participate in recreation classes?
We do have opportunities for dance, tennis, day camps, specialty camps, and other youth programs available. Please see our online catalog for more information of what is currently available. https://rec.cityoffederalway.com/wbwsc/webtrac.wsc/splash.html

VIRTUAL CLASSES

How can I exercise while the Center is closed?
The center has launched online exercise classes to support the health and well-being of the community during these turbulent times. You can find many of classes available now at itallhappenshere.org or follow the Federal Way Community Center on social media to see all of our live classes.

HOLDS AND REFUNDS

What if I want to extend my hold after the community center reopens?
Thanks for your question. We understand that you may not be ready to restart your membership when the center reopens. We would be happy to place your account on hold for up to six months at no charge.

I’ve previously requested a refund or credit and haven’t seen it yet. How long will it take to see that in my account?
We will be processing as quickly as possible, but given the volume and this being a manual process based on our systems, we expect it may take up to a week. Thank you so much for your patience!

Mayor’s Proclamation of Emergency

Proclamation from Mayor Ferrell:
“The seriousness of the #coronavirus #COVID-19 threat affecting our community has risen in the region in the past few days, and I have decided to issue a Proclamation of Emergency.
This Proclamation gives us the ability to override routine procedures to quickly and effectively respond to public health threats.
I have also set up an Outbreak Advisory Team made up of department directors as well as other key staff members which will meet once a week going forward to discuss the evolving threat. We are also canceling commission meetings at City Hall through March 31, and we’re planning for members to participate via the web or phone for Council Committee meetings.
The safety and health of our community is our top priority during this threat to public health in Federal Way.”

FWCC coronavirus precaution statement

The Federal Way Community Center is taking every precaution against the potential threat of coronavirus in Federal Way. The community center is taking and recommending these steps to minimize a potential threat or outbreak.

  1. If you feel ill or have the flu, seek medical attention immediately! Please do not enter the community center or other high trafic areas other than when getting checked medically
  2. Frequent hand washing with warm water and soap for 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub
  3. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue, upper sleeve or elbow when you cough or sneeze
  4. Soap and warm water are available in all of our restrooms, and hand sanitizer has been placed around the facility.
  5. Common areas are frequently cleaned including door handles, fitness equipment, lockers, and other “high touch” items

Our facility is cleaned daily using products that disinfect each piece of equipment and ask that after each use by a patron that it be cleaned again utilizing those products that are placed around the facility for users use.

As with any newly emerging infectious disease, knowledge evolves with time, and recommendations are changing rapidly. We are closely monitoring information from public health officials and will follow their prevention guidelines to help keep our facilities clean and community safe.
